چکیده

The purpose of this work is to explore and quantify physical metrics of breast tumors in both magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and breast tomosynthesis (BT) images, and relate these metrics to pathophysiological and histopathological ndings. An analysis of breast specimens containing tumors will be employed to determine BT metrics of interest. These metrics will then be applied to patient images to test whether they are suitable in predicting malignancy or not. Clinical images of 10 patients who have undergone both MRI and BT examinations have been obtained and studied in this project. The tumors seen in the tomosynthesis slices were characterized by objective measures such as degree of spiculation, irregularity and size. These measures were compared to contrast uptake curves created from the respective tumors in the MR images. Two di erent MRI methods (wash-in/wash-out and persistent curve type percentage) were established and compared. Both methods have a sensitivity of 100% but the speci city is higher for the persistent curve type percentage method. With regards to the BT metrics, the parameters irregularity and ellipticity both had a signi cant di erence between malignant and benign cases. No relationship was observed in the inter-metric analysis of the BT and MRI metrics, however, not enough data was available to draw any conclusions. The results indicate that the BT parameters irregularity and ellipticity may be useful for di erentiation between malignant and benign tumors.

Ultra-Fast Image Reconstruction of Tomosynthesis Mammography Using GPU

Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT) is a technology that creates three dimensional (3D) images of breast tissue. Tomosynthesis mammography detects lesions that are not detectable with other imaging systems. If image reconstruction time is in the order of seconds, we can use Tomosynthesis systems to perform Tomosynthesis-guided Interventional procedures. This research has been designed to study u...

Upregulation of HOTAIR Transcript Level in Tumor Tissue of Iranian Women with Breast Cancer

Background:Dysregulation of HOX Transcript Antisense Intergenic RNA (HOTAIR) has been linked to the etiopathogenesis of several human cancers. According to epidemiological evidences, the risk of susceptibility to breast cancer varies among different populations. This study was designed to determine the transcriptional level of HOTAIR in tumor cells of breast cancer pat...

Breast MRI, digital mammography and breast tomosynthesis: comparison of three methods for early detection of breast cancer.

Breast cancer is the most common malignancy in women and early detection is important for its successful treatment. The aim of this study was to investigate the sensitivity and specificity of three methods for early detection of breast cancer: breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), digital mammography, and breast tomosynthesis in comparison to histopathology, as well as to investigate the int...

Accuracy of mammography, digital breast tomosynthesis, ultrasound and MR imaging in preoperative assessment of breast cancer.

AIM To define the accuracy of digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) added to digital mammography (DM) and ultrasound (US) in the preoperative assessment of breast cancer. PATIENTS AND METHODS We performed a prospective study of 200 consecutive women with histologically-proven breast cancer using the above imaging techniques. Accuracy measurements were estimat...
